Updating Your Portfolio - Funds
GlobeAdvisor is free to use and tracks over 3,000 mutual funds available for
sale in Canada. This includes virtually all open-end mutual funds, index funds, segregated
funds and Canadian mutual funds valued in U.S. dollars.
GlobeAdvisor reduces the chore of setting up your mutual fund portfolio and maintaining
it on an on-going basis in several ways:
- automatic posting of historical and on-going
distributions to your portfolio
- automatic posting to your portfolio of buys and/or
sells if you follow a pre-authorized purchase plan (e.g., buy $200 of a fund
each month)
- automatic price lookup from the globefund.com daily price database when adding
transactions, or you can use the prices shown on your statements.
- Add New Funds:
Add a new mutual fund to your portfolio.
- Record Buy/Sell: Enter the initial number of units owned in a fund or to record a change in
the number of units held due to a buy or sell. No actual units will be bought
or sold. You do not need to enter mutual fund distributions; GlobeAdvisor will
enter them automatically.
- Start Recurring Buy/Sell: Many
investors make arrangements with their broker to purchase or sell mutual funds
on a regular basis throughout the year. Once you have a recurring buy/sell set
up, GlobeAdvisor will automatically record the buy or sell in your portfolio
on the appropriate day(s) of the month. No actual units will be bought or
sold.
- Stop Recurring Buy/Sell: Stop a recurring buy/sell or to view a list of the recurring
buys and sells you have set up.
- Record Additional Fee: In the management of your mutual fund portfolio, there may be
fees or expenses incurred that you would want to account for. RRSP trustee
fees are a good example of this type of fee. The Record Additional Fee option
allows you to track these kinds of fees in your portfolio.
- Record Distribution: GlobeAdvisor automatically adds distributions to your
portfolio, so you should not need to use this option. If you accidentally
delete a distribution, you can add it again with this option.
- Change Reinvestment Option: Use this option to change whether mutual fund distributions
are reinvested or not.
- Delete Funds:
Use this option to delete a fund from your portfolio, change whether mutual
fund distributions are reinvested or not, or edit the comment you entered for
a fund.
- View/Edit/Delete Transactions: View a list of all
transactions entered by you and transactions entered automatically by GlobeAdvisor. From
this page you can edit or delete a transaction that was entered incorrectly.
Updating Your Portfolio - Stocks
GlobeAdvisor is free to use and tracks over 18,000 stocks available on the major
Canadian and American exchanges (TSE, CDNX, NYSE, NASDAQ, OTC-OTC, AmEx).
GlobeAdvisor reduces the chore of setting up your stock portfolio and maintaining it on
an on-going basis in several ways:
- automatic posting of historical and on-going
dividends and splits to your portfolio after December 31, 1998.
- automatic price lookup from the globefund.com daily price database when adding
transactions, or you can use the prices shown on your statements.
- Add New Stocks:
Use this option to add a new stock to your portfolio.
- Add Delisted Stocks: GlobeAdvisor allows you to track stocks that have been
delisted. Use this option to add a delisted stock to your portfolio. You will
be prompted to enter the initial number of shares owned.
- Record Buy/Sell: Use this option to enter the initial number of shares owned
or to record a change in the number of shares held due to a buy or sell. No
actual shares will be bought or sold. You do not need to enter splits or stock
dividends occurring after December 31, 1999; GlobeAdvisor will enter them
automatically.
- Record Buy/Sell-short: Record a short sell or buy in your portfolio. No
actual shares will be bought or sold.
- Record Dividend: GlobeAdvisor automatically records cash and stock dividends
occurring after December 31, 1999 in your portfolio. Use this option to record
dividends occurring prior to December 31, 1999 in your portfolio. Also,
GlobeAdvisor does not currently handle the special case of Company A issuing a
dividend consisting of shares of Company B. To record such a dividend in your
portfolio, convert the value of Company B's shares to cash and enter the cash
value of the dividend using the Record Dividend option.
- Edit/Delete Stocks: Delete a stock from your portfolio or edit the comment you
entered for a stock.
- View/Edit/Delete Transactions: View a list of all
transactions entered by you and transactions entered automatically by GlobeAdvisor. From
this page you can edit or delete a transaction that was entered incorrectly.
