Quick Add for Stocks and Funds

About Quick Add for Stocks and Funds: Use this page to set up your portfolio quickly and easily.

  1. From the drop-down list in the Action column, choose whether you want to record a Buy, Sell or Sell All.
  2. If you are entering a stock, enter the stock symbol and exchange code (for example, BCE-T). Valid exchange codes are: T-Toronto, N-New York, M-Montreal, A-American, X-Canadian Venture, Q-Nasdaq, Q2-Nasdaq-OTCBB. If you are entering a mutual fund, you must enter a fund code. For example, the fund code for the Fidelity Canadian Bond fund is FID233. Use the Fund Lookup or refer to your fund company statement to find out the fund code for the fund you wish to enter. The Fund Lookup may display more than one fund code for a single fund, indicating that the fund has different load types. If you are not certain which fund you hold, simply pick one - this will not affect how Globe Portfolio tracks your mutual fund.
  3. Enter the date of the transaction in the date fields in the format yyyy mm dd. When first setting up your portfolio, you can track your stocks from this point forward by using the date and number of shares held shown on your most recent broker's statement. Alternatively, if you have kept good records, you can track your stock from the time of purchase if you know the date, number of shares and market price at which you first bought the stock.
  4. Under $ Amount or # Shares/Units, select # of Shares and type the number of shares you purchased or sold on the transaction date in the adjacent box OR select $ Amount and type the total dollar value of the transaction in the adjacent box. If you are recording the number of shares you own and are entering information from your most recent broker's statement, you would be entering either the number of shares you now own OR the total value of your investment in the stock.
  5. Under Share/Unit Price, type the share price. Alternatively, you can click the checkbox beside Market Price in the Defaults row and Globe Portfolio will automatically supply the share price at the close of business on the specified date.
  6. If you are paying any fees for this transaction, either to a broker or financial planner, you must enter a dollar value.
  7. If you are tracking a mutual fund, click the checkbox in the Reinvest Distrib. column to reinvest your fund distributions.
  8. Complete the above steps for each investment you wish to track. When you are done, click Add to My Portfolio. The Confirmation screen will be shown.
  9. If the details are correct, click Confirm transactions.

Use the Defaults Row to Quickly Set Up a Hypothetical Portfolio

Use the Defaults row to make setting up your portfolio even easier. The value in the default fields will be used wherever you leave a field empty in the table below. For example, you can quickly set up a hypothetical portfolio by entering a default transaction date of today's date, entering 1000.00 for default $ Amount and clicking the checkbox beside Market Price. Then you just have to enter stock or fund symbols in the Symbol column and leave all other fields blank. You can set a default value for:
