Stock Filters
Stock Filters allow you to isolate stocks, indexes and companies based on criteria that
includes percentage price change, revenue or income growth, industry and exchange.
- The Historical Price Filter lets you screen stocks and indexes
based on their percentage price change. Price changes are based on the last available
closing prices, and do not include intraday price action.
- The Intraday Price Filter lets you screen stocks and
indexes based on their percentage price change for the current or last trading day.
Historic prices are excluded. You can isolate securities that trade above a minimum market
price, have a specified price/earnings ratio and much more.
- The Company Financials Filter lets you screen companies based on
their industry classification, market capitalization, and most recent annual financial
information such as revenue, net income and book value. All input fields are optional, but
can be used to isolate specific companies within an industry that meet your criteria.
Stock Filter - Historical Price
Use the Historical Price Filter to screen stocks based on their percentage price
change. Price changes are based on the last available closing prices, and do not include
intraday price action. The database of historical prices is usually updated with the
latest closing numbers before 8pm EST each weekday after the markets close. You have the
option of isolating securities that meet one or more of the following criteria:
- have a percentage price change greater than, less than or equal to a specified amount
- trade above a minimum market price
- are in a particular industry
- are listed on a particular exchange
The following options are available:
- Exchange: Select "All" from the
pulldown menu to search all publicly traded companies listed on all exchanges in the menu.
Choosing a particular exchange or group of exchanges restricts the search to companies
listed on the selected exchange(s).
- Industry: Select "All" from the
pulldown menu to search all publicly traded companies in our database. Choosing a
particular industry restricts the search to companies in the selected industry.
- Price Performance: Use Price Performance to
isolate up to two stocks whose percentage price change is greater than, less than or equal
to a specific amount during a selected time period. On the first line:
- select a time period;
- select Greater than, Less than or Equal to
- and enter a number in the percentage change text box
For example: 1 Month return Greater than 30 % will return a Quote Report containing all
stocks and indexes whose price has jumped by more than 30% during the last 30 calendar
days. The second line under price performance is optional. if you choose to complete the
first line and the second line, the search will isolate stocks and indexes that match the
criteria entered in both lines. For example, 1 Month return Greater than 20% and Second
line: 1 Year return Greater than 55% will isolate stocks and indexes whose price has
jumped by more than 20% during the last 22 trading days and by more than 55% in the last
year. In this case, you might be searching for growth stocks that have recently made a
strong upward move.
- Price greater than ($): Select a minimum dollar
amount from the pulldown menu. Selecting $10.00, for instance, restricts your search
results to stocks that are currently trading at or above a price of $10.
- Report type: You can opt to view your search
results in the Quote report, $ Change, or % Change report.
- Time period: 1 Week includes price gains or
losses within the last seven calendar days. 1 Month spans roughly 30 calendar days. 1
Quarter, YTD, 1 Year, 3 Years and 5 Years refer to the last three months, year to date, on
year, three years and five years, respectively.
Stock Filter - Intraday Price
The Intraday Price Filter lets you screen stocks based on their percentage price change
during the current or last trading day. It does not include price information for previous
trading days. You have the option of isolating securities that meet one or more of the
following criteria:
- trade above a minimum market price
- have a minimum trading volume for the day
- have a price/earnings ratio above or below a specified level
- are in a particular industry
- are listed on a particular exchange
During trading hours (weekdays, 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.), prices are delayed at least 15
minutes for securities that trade on the NASDAQ Exchange and at least 20 minutes for
securities that trade on all other exchanges. Returns calculations across the site reflect
all stock splits and are based on simple capital appreciation. Calculations do not include
the payment of dividends. Each report links to price charts, news and additional
information on each company or index displayed on the report.
- Price Change Greater than (%): Type a number
into this text box. Example: If, during market hours, you enter 3.2 in the Price Change
Greater than text box and click 'Go,' the report generated will display stocks that have
risen more than 3.2% during the current trading day.
- Price Greater than ($): Select a dollar amount from
the pulldown menu. Selecting $10.00, for example, restricts your search results to stocks
that are currently trading at or above a price of $10.
- Price-to-earnings Ratio: The price-to-earnings ratio
is a value indicator that represents the number of times a company's annual per share
earnings must be multiplied in order to match its stock market price. A P/E ratio of 15
means that a stock is trading at 15 times earnings. In general terms, the higher the
price-to-earnings ratio, the more expensive the stock. Earnings per share figures on the
site are calculated based on net income for the trailing 12 month-period, meaning that net
income figures are based on the company's last four available quarterly financial reports.
Select either Greater than or Less than from the pulldown menu and enter a number.
Example: If you select "Less than" and type in 10, the filter will display
results for stocks that have a price-to-earnings multiple of less than 10 based on the
latest intraday or end-of-day price.
- Report Type: You can opt to view your search
results in the Quote report, $ Change, or % Change report.
- Volume Traded More than ('000s): This field is
optional. Volume represents the total number of shares of that security that were traded
during the current or at the end of the last trading day. Typing '400,' into the text box
restricts your search results to stocks whose trading volume for the current or last
trading day exceeds 400,000 shares.

on their industry classification, market capitalization, and most recent annual financial

options that enable you to convert financial information from one currency to another
within the report:
- You can view the results in the currency in which the company originally reported its
financial statements (As Reported)
- You can view all the results in Canadian dollars; or
- You can view all the results in U.S. dollars
- Industry: Select "All" from the pulldown
menu to search all publicly traded companies in our database. Choosing a particular
industry restricts the search to companies in the selected industry.
- Market Capitalization - Greater than ($000) and Less
than: A company's Market Capitalization is its stock market dollar value, or all of
its shares outstanding multiplied by its current stock price. Entering numbers in one of
these text boxes is optional, but allows you to restrict your search to companies that
have a minimum (greater than) or a maximum (smaller than) market capitalization. If you
enter numbers into both fields, your search will isolate those companies that have a
market capitalization within the range you've specified. To isolate companies with a
market capitalization greater than $400,000, enter 400 in the Greater than ($000) text
box.

the price of the company's common shares is higher than its break-up value, or common
shareholder's equity. A price-to-book multiple below one means that the price of the
company's common shares are less than its break-up value, and the shares may be
undervalued in relation to its break-up value. To find potentially undervalued companies,
enter a number below one in the Price-to-Book Value Ratio text box.
