CI Mutual Funds Inc. announced a number of portfolio management and fund name changes as part of its ongoing plan to simplify and strengthen its fund lineup.

In a news release, CI Mutual Funds said the changes follow the acquisition of Spectrum Investment Management Ltd., Clarica Diversico Ltd., and the segregated fund businesses of Clarica Life Insurance Co. and Sun Life Financial Services of Canada Inc. by CI's parent company, C.I. Fund Management Inc. (T.CIX), on July 25.

The fund name changes and all but two of the portfolio management changes were effective Aug. 28, it said. The management of CI American Value Fund (formerly Spectrum American Value Fund) and CI Asian Dynasty Fund (formerly Spectrum Asian Dynasty Fund) will change on Oct. 1.

Canadian Venture Exchange Name Change

The name of the Canadian Venture Exchange has been changed to the TSX Venture Exchange.

TSE Index Name Changes

On May 1, 2002 the name of the TSE 300 Composite will change to the S&P/TSX Composite. The S&P/TSX's new globeinvestor.com symbol is TSX-I. The number of companies which make up the index will no longer be fixed at 300, but will be allowed to float. Companies added must meet all of S&P's criteria. Any company whose shares are candidates for inclusion in the S&P/TSX Composite Index must be incorporated under Canadian federal, provincial, or territorial jurisdictions and listed on the TSX. Limited Partnerships, Royalty Trusts, Real Estate Investment Trusts, preferred shares, exchangeable shares, and other financial instruments that the committee deems not appropriate as candidates, are not eligible for inclusion in the index.

End-of-day values for the TSE 300 Composite will continue to be calculated, but no intraday values will be available.

The name of the S&P/CDNX Composite will change to the S&P/TSX Venture Composite. The criteria for inclusion and maintenance will be unaffected by this change.

For all other index names in which the acronym TSE occurs, TSE will be changed to TSX.

On March 22, 2002 Standard & Poors and the TSE introduced the Global Industry Classification Standard (GICS) to Canada. The current TSE 300 Composite Index uses a classification system that divides stocks into 14 groups and is unique to the Canadian marketplace. GICS - developed by Standard & Poor's and Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI) - was created in response to the global financial community's need for a single and consistent set of industry definitions. GICS has rapidly gained worldwide acceptance and its use in the S&P/TSX Composite will allow investors to accurately compare the performance of Canadian indices with those around the world. Nine new Canadian GICS have been introduced, in addition to the four which were introduced in September, 2000.
